"Jewels of the
Night" is a musical compliment to peaceful moments of rest and refreshment at the end of the
day and contains works that set a relaxing mood and are rich in melody and harmony. Bellavente musicians selected parlor and salon music of Mozart and French composers Maurice Ravel and Francis Poulenc as well as two beautiful movements from a Quintet written by Marie Louise Simon under the pen name of Claude Arrieu. The lovely music of French-American composer Darius Milhaud and two classics from George Gershwin completes the relaxing musical ambience. |

The expansiveness of Bach's cello suites affects me like the wide open spaces of the wilderness. On this album, we bring together the music of Bach and the sounds of nature. Given the flute's portability (unlike the cello, for instance), it would not be terribly surprising to discover, perchance, a flutist playing at the locations on this album, sharing the air with birds and bugs, breezes and faeries. But, I thought it would be fun to take you with me: spending the morning at California's San Geronimo Ridge, the afternoon at Brazil's Itatiaia Rain forest and then returning to Point Reyes National Seashore as night falls. |
