Karen Wells, Clarinet
|Karen Wells is a multi-talented
musician with rich performing and teaching schedules.
Currently Ms. Wells is on the faculty of the UC Berkeley Young Musician's Program, the Crowden School, and Berkeley High School, where she is director of the Concert Orchestra and Band. She also maintains a roster of private students.
Ms. Wells maintains an active chamber music career, as a member of the Cosmopolitan Trio, the Hoover Wind Quintet, and Schwungvoll, a 20th century chamber music ensemble.
Her orchestral experience includes performing with the Richmond Symphony and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra on the East Coast. In California, she freelances with many regional orchestras and opera companies, including the Women's Philharmonic, West Bay Opera, Berkeley Opera, the Oakland East Bay Symphony and the Stockton Symphony.
Ms. Wells holds degrees from the University of Richmond, Ithaca College, and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Her primary teachers include David Neithamer, Robert Schmidt, and James Russell. She has also studied with Leon Russianoff, and has participated in master classes with Robert Marcellus. In the fall of 1993, Ms. Wells was awarded a Travel Grant by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. She was invited to London to study at the Royal College of Music and to network with teachers in England, and was awarded the Licentiate upon completion of her 10 week stay.
